Business Details

Temalangeni Minenhle Dlamini is an Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate from the University of Eswatini with a strong background in power systems, energy sustainability, and digital transformation. She has hands-on experience in both industry and research, having worked as an Electrical and Instrumentation Intern at Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation and as a Software Developer Intern at the Royal Science and Technology Park, where she developed full-stack applications, implemented cloud solutions with AWS, and integrated secure database systems.

Beyond technical work, Temalangeni is passionate about using engineering to create social impact. As a coordinator for high school outreach programs under the UNESWA Engineering Society, she led initiatives that empowered over 1,500 students to explore STEM careers, while also driving innovation through projects such as smart home automation, intrusion detection systems, and advanced agricultural monitoring solutions.

Her interests span renewable energy, artificial intelligence, IoT, and smart grids. She has collaborated on climate communication research with ClimateXChange, participated in the MTN NextGen STEM Program (winning 1st place for a rural network deployment project), and contributed to the Google Student Developer Club by building smart water monitoring solutions for rural communities.

Temalangeni’s portfolio reflects her commitment to combining technical expertise with sustainability, innovation, and community development.

Project/Capstone

During the cohort, I worked on a project titled “Switch Smart Eswatini: Power Market and Energy Efficiency” The project focused on addressing Eswatini’s heavy reliance on imported electricity by promoting energy efficiency as a demand-side solution. I developed a web application: (https://eswatinienergyefficiencymarket.netlify.app/) to provide practical energy-saving tips tailored for households, small businesses, industries, schools, and healthcare facilities.

The application complements my research article by translating policy recommendations and technical strategies into accessible digital tools that raise awareness among citizens and institutions. The platform highlights regulatory frameworks such as Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and appliance labeling while offering sector-specific guidance on reducing consumption and costs.

This project combined engineering knowledge, software development, and energy policy analysis to produce a solution that is both technical and community-focused. It not only demonstrates the potential of digital platforms in advancing energy efficiency but also provides a model that could be scaled to other developing nations facing similar energy security challenges.

Future Goals/Next Steps

Future Goals/Next Steps

After the mentorship, my immediate goal is to do a Graduate-in-Training position with the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA), specifically in the area of Power Procurement. The skills and knowledge from the Green Mentorship will be valuable within ESERA and contributing towards the country's energy sustainability and use of renewable energy technologies within the country's energy mix.

I intend to leverage my project on Eswatini Energy Efficiency and Power Market to demonstrate how digital platforms can support ESERA’s mandate of ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply.

Beyond employment, I aim to keep refining the web application and research outputs from the mentorship to raise awareness and provide resources for households, businesses, and institutions. Long term, I want to contribute to strengthening Eswatini’s energy security by supporting regulatory frameworks that encourage renewable integration, competitive procurement processes, and efficient energy use.

This mentorship has given me both the technical foundation and the confidence to pursue this path, and I am determined to use these skills to serve my country’s energy sector.
